Manchester United are the latest side to show an interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze. According to the People Sir Alex Ferguson sent his brother Martin, one of United’s leading scouts, to watch the 19-year-old in action in Dortmund’s 5-1 victory over Wolsfburg. Gotze is a target for a number of Europe’s top clubs with Arsenal said to be particularly interested. Gotze also appears on a list of five players that Spanish newspaper Marca claimed this week were targets for Real Madrid by 2014.
Gotze has made 62 appearances for Dortmund, scoring 13 goals, and made the first of his 12 appearances for Germany at the age of just 18. United are also being linked with a summer move for
Barcelona defender Eric Abidal. The 32-year-old looks set to leave the Nou Camp at the end of the season after failing to agree a new deal with the club. Arsenal and Liverpool are also being linked with the Frenchman.
